Kužni pil (baroque votive monument)

Description:

Baroque votive monument to the Holy Trinity Square has been erected in 1749. in memory to 798 citizens of Požega who died during the plague that lasted from 15th of May until 28th of November 1739. An inscription on the monument says that it has been erected by the city and sculpted by "pictor di Veneta" Gabriel Granicie for the price of 2000 eggs and 300 forints.

The square base of the monument bears and inscription whose letters representing roman numerals add up to 1749 - the year the monument was built. City coat of arms has been placed on the eastern side of the monument base seventeen years before it was formally approved in 1765.
